Now that Spring is in full swing, Perfection Exhaust & Auto Care based in Kernersville, NC knows that the last thing on your mind should be auto repair when you want to take trips. We have your back, and we have made a list of 3 simple ways you can maintain your car for great trips all season long.
1. Replace Wiper Blades
Your wiper blades have to work so hard every time you defrost your car. Though replacing wiper blades often falls on the bottom of the list, do yourself a favor and go ahead and change them. You’ll thank yourself every time that it rains through the Spring and Summer months. Wiper blades are also very cheap! You could change them yourself, or have a professional change them at a very low price. While you’re at it, it’s also a good time to check your wiper fluid. It’s going to come in handy with all the pollen that’s in the air.
2. Wash Car
Winter can be very hard on your car’s finish. It’s so important to wash off the road salt and grime that’s been building up on your car. Make sure you use a dedicated car-wash soap. Though it’s easy to turn to your dish washing detergent or glass cleaner, these products are not designed to be used on car paint, and it may strip away the protective wax that you have on your car.
3. Check Tires
Now’s the time to evaluate the condition of your tires after the brutal winter. When you are checking you tires, be sure to look for cracks, degraded tread, or really anything that looks like it may lead to a blowout on the road. Another way you can check is by using the penny test. Take the penny and hold Abraham Lincoln’s body between your thumb and forefinger, select the area where it looks like the tread is the lowest, place his head into one of the grooves, if any part of his head is covered by the tread, you’re driving with the safe amount of tread–if not, you may need to get your tires checked.
